DAGO AT A GLANCE                                         DONATE

Dago Dala Hera Orphanage is a non-profit, non-political,non-denominational and non-governmental organization indigenously inspired and created voluntary community organization registered on No: AWD, SHG, 0329, 2002.

It is situated in Western Kenya in Nyanza Province, Rongo District, Awendo Division, Sakwa East Location, Kogelo East Sub-Location in Kaminasuo Village. It is about 50kms from the town of Kisii, south-west of Kenya (45 to hour drive by public vehicle).

The community of Dago Village, affected by the global health challenges posed by HIV/AIDs, poverty, diseases and unemployment,we felt it necessary to look beyond their community resources for assistance. In 2002 we welcomed our first Peace Corp Volunteer (USA).

Through donations we have successfully constructed the girls’dormitory that is housing 36 orphans, plus a house parent. Although some furnishings have been acquired, much is still needed in order for the facility to operate as a full board home. After realizing this task we will turn our focus on constructing boy’s dormitory as well as a building the kitchen and dining hall.

The orphanage is currently functioning as a full board for 36 girls and also daycare feeding program for primary school children during school days. This program began in 2005 and feeds 95 children, (orphans, partial orphans and vulnerable children), 2 meals a day for the 39 weeks the children attend school. We are working on self-sustainable projects, so we can be independent and not operate on well-wishers and individual supporters, who have seen us through all this time. We thank you and would still be working with you everyday.
